Translating your website’s body content is only half the battle. If you don’t translate your SEO metadata, your new international pages will be invisible to Google.

Meta titles and descriptions are the shop window for your website. When you launch a localized version of your site, these critical tags need to be translated accurately and mapped perfectly back to their corresponding pages.

Because metadata is structured data, attempting to copy-paste it into an AI chat tool is a recipe for disaster. The most efficient way to manage SEO localization at scale is through a CSV export and a strict column-mapping workflow.

This guide explains how to translate thousands of meta tags securely.

The SEO Localization Dilemma

When you export your SEO data from a CMS (like WordPress, Webflow, or Shopify), you typically get a CSV with three main columns:

  1. URL Slug (e.g., /blog/best-running-shoes)
  2. Meta Title (e.g., The 10 Best Running Shoes for 2026)
  3. Meta Description (e.g., Looking for marathon shoes? Read our…)

The dilemma lies in the URL Slug.

For most teams, the safest and most technically sound approach is to translate the Title and Description while strictly preserving the original URL Slug as the identifier.

Step 1: Exporting your SEO data

First, get your data out of your CMS.

  • Webflow: You can export a CMS collection directly to CSV, which will include your SEO fields.
  • Shopify: A standard product export includes SEO Title and SEO Description columns.
  • WordPress: Use a plugin like WP All Export to extract the Yoast or RankMath meta fields alongside the Post ID or Slug.

Step 2: The “Selected Columns” Workflow

You now have a CSV containing hundreds of rows of metadata. To translate this without breaking the structural link back to your CMS, use a specialized translation platform like AI Glot.

Map your file exactly like this:
