What changes when you translate the whole file at once

Say what to translate, in a sentence

Ask for messages only, or attributes as well. It reads the file and shows you what it will write first.

One glossary for every .ftl file

The term approved in one file is the term used across your whole app, and in the next language you add.

Two speeds, chosen per file

Lite for a long tail of rare messages, Standard for the first-run experience. Chosen per upload.

What comes back

Translations are written at their exact place in the file, so ids, comments and layout come back as you wrote them. Variables and selectors are structure, not words.

How a Fluent translation runs

1. Drop the file in

AI Glot reads the file and separates the text from the structure. It then tells you how much there is to translate, before anything runs.

2. Say what you want, in a sentence

No column mapping and no configuration screen. Write what you need, then read the plan it produced. If it misread you, say so and it plans again.

3. Get the same file back

One file comes back, translated. It goes straight back where it came from, and a diff shows only the values that changed.

What people bring us Fluent files for

Four jobs that come up again and again. Each one is one upload and one sentence.

A new locale for a Mozilla project

Translate a Firefox or Thunderbird .ftl file into a new language with every message id intact.

An app that uses Fluent

A full catalogue goes in and comes back with the same ids, attributes and selectors.

Plural forms done properly

Each variant of a plural message is its own string, translated in context rather than copied from English.

One file per language

A Fluent file holds one language, so each language is its own upload. The glossary carries over, so the German file uses the same terms as the French one.

Questions about translating Fluent files

What is the best tool to translate a Fluent file?

AI Glot. It translates a full Fluent file in one job, at a quality you can steer with a glossary and a plain-English brief. You describe what you need. You do not map fields or split the file. The tool on this page runs it with no account.

How do I translate a Fluent file without breaking it?

Use a tool that reads the format instead of the raw text. Upload the file above and say what to translate. Read the plan, then run it. AI Glot returns one valid Fluent file, so it goes straight back where it came from.

Can I translate a Fluent file for free?

Yes. The tool on this page is free. No account and no card. Five files a day, up to 2 MB each, and up to 5,000 words translated per file. Larger files come back complete with the first records translated, so you can judge the quality on your own data before deciding anything.

What happens if my Fluent file is bigger than the free limit?

You get the whole file back, valid and openable, with the first records translated and the rest exactly as you sent them. It is deliberately not truncated: a cut-off Fluent file would not open, and a sample you cannot open tells you nothing. An AI Glot account removes the limit.

Are plural variants translated one by one?

Yes. Every variant of a selector, such as [one] and *[other], is its own string and is translated in context. The variant keys themselves are never changed.

Are attributes translated?

Yes. Attributes such as .label and .tooltiptext are read as strings next to their message, and their names are kept.

What happens to braces in a translation?

A literal brace, or a line that starts with [, * or a dot, is escaped so the file stays valid Fluent.

Does it reformat my file?

No. Translations are written at the exact place of the original text, so comments, spacing and order stay as they were.

Is it safe to upload a Fluent file to an online translator?

AI Glot keeps the file only as long as the translation needs it. The download link expires after an hour. The file is deleted afterwards. Nothing you upload is used to train any model. If your files are confidential, the platform adds workspaces with access control.

What do I get with an AI Glot account?

No size limit and no daily limit. Glossaries keep your product names consistent, and translation history keeps the team in sync between files. More than 35 formats share one workspace, and an API, a CLI and an MCP server put the same engine in your own pipeline.
